If you think that libraries are just shelves full of books, get ready to change your mind! Here, every corner and every volume tells a story that unites culture, history and the future.

A Library with Heart and Soul
Her story Nikolopoulios Library of Andritsaina begins in 1840, when Konstantinos Agathofron Nikolopoulos, a visionary scholar, decided to make a unique donation to Andritsaina.

The library traveled from Paris to Greece in 47 boxes of books, which were transported by ship to Katakolo and from there by animals to the mountainous Andritsaina.

Think about it: a man who lived in Paris, among intellectuals and revolutionaries, chooses to send his entire library – thousands of volumes, rare and precious – to his father’s small mountainous homeland. Why? Because he believed in the power of knowledge. Because he knew that Greece needed educated citizens to move forward.

A Treasure of Books
The library's collection is no ordinary one. It includes over 40,000 volumes, among its treasures are publications from as early as 16th century, rare manuscripts, as well as historical documents related to the period of the Greek Revolution.

Old books with leather and parchment covers, with handwritten notes from people who read them centuries ago. Think about it: holding in your hands a volume that was printed 400 years ago. This is not just reading – it is time travel.
The library also hosts 23 plaster casts of the frieze of the Temple of Temple of Apollo Epicurius, his donation British Museum in 1963.

A wonderful way to connect the spiritual heritage of the region with this unique archaeological treasure.

Journey Through Time
For about For 35 years the books were kept there, until a suitable place was found for the creation of a real library, it went through many difficulties. For years, its precious books were in danger of decay and oblivion. In 1875, a special building was built for the Andritsaina High School with the support of National Bank, while later a new wing was added to house the library, which for decades was an important intellectual center for the entire region.
