Krepakore Castle

The Krepakore Castle is a magical place full of history and myths, waiting for you to discover it in the heart of Ilia. Built by the Franks at the end of the 13th century, this imposing castle dominates at an altitude of 1,344 meters above the village of Fanari, offering panoramic views of the lush Arcadian countryside. Its location was not accidental: the castle was built at a strategic point, overseeing important routes and maintaining control of the area.

The castle has changed hands many times — from the Franks, to the Byzantines, and finally to the Turks. In the late 17th century, it was captured by the Venetians, who strengthened its fortifications, before returning to Ottoman rule. Over the years, Krepakore has become a symbol of legendary narratives, such as the legend of Oria, a beautiful girl who is said to have fallen into the Neda waterfalls to escape her conquerors, leaving behind an air of mystery and romance.

Although the castle is now in ruins, it remains a fascinating stop for explorers and nature lovers. The route to the ruins of Krepakore Castle is full of wild natural beauty, and the hike through the hilly terrain will reward you with images you will not forget. This part of Ilia is ideal for discovering not only the history but also the magic of the legends that surround the place.

A trip to Krepakore Castle is an unforgettable experience, where Frankish architecture and mysterious stories meet the stunning views and natural beauty of the Peloponnese.
